Founder of Bay Design, Susan Bay is one of Southeastern Michigan’s premier interior designers, renowned for award-winning, classic design that is original as well as timeless. Her work encompasses residential renovations, new construction, and award-winning hotels and model homes. Susan believes the overriding objective in any project should be beauty and comfort. And she knows comfort can only come from working closely with clients, understanding their perceptions and feelings, and translating that information into remarkable environments.
James Kunstel — ASID, Vice President
A Bay Design Store design partner since 1981, James was born in Farmington Hills, Michigan and graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Interior Design. He is a Florida licensed designer and a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers. James brings a fresh approach to classic design, creating personality-appropriate rooms that are both decorative and elegant, yet completely livable. His expertise extends from intimate residential projects to large-scale hotel projects. On every project, James uses fresh color palettes and a classic sense of proportion to transform ordinary spaces into extraordinary places to live, work, and visit. This unique approach has earned James numerous awards and recognition, establishing him as one of the area’s premier interior designers. A Naples residence for the past 5 years, he continues to work with design clients on their projects in Michigan and other parts of the country as well as in southwest Florida.

Christie has been practicing interior design on the Florida Gulf Coast for over 25 years. A graduate cum laude of William Woods University, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in interior design. Christie's success as an interior designer is a result of her attention to detail, her artistic aptitude, and most importantly her ability to listen to her clients. She engages her clients in a partnership to successfully create functional, comfortable interiors that tastefully reflect their vision of ambience as well as their Florida lifestyle. Christie's goal for every project that she embraces is to exceed client expectations. Her design work has been featured in Gulfshore Life, Gulfcoast Living, and Home and Condo Magazine and other publications. When not designing beautiful interiors Christie enjoys spending time with family and friends, as well as reading, antiquing, painting, scrapbooking, hiking, and traveling.
